The Wigbels Eiland observation point - Oostvaardersplassen
This hut is located near the De Zeearend bird hide, however experiencing nature here is a more all-consuming treat. There’s no double glazing, so you will hear the sounds around you much better and experience the environment more directly. Foxes often patrol near the hut searching for an opportunity. You can also look out over the water where many species of ducks, as well as large white egrets, regularly feed. In winter you might even spot a sea eagle.

Route description
It takes around half an hour to walk from the Knardijk visitor centre to this bird hide. By car follow the A6 (Amsterdam-Emmeloord) motorway and take exit number 10, direction Lelystad via Larserdreef. Turn left onto the Torenvalkweg and follow this until you reach the Knardijk dyke. Turn right onto the Knardijk dyke. The visitor centre lies on your left, beyond the railway viaduct, where you can park. The visitor centre is not easy to access by public transport, as the nearest bus stop is an hour’s walk away. You can hire a bike in Lelystad; from the train station it takes about half an hour to cycle to the visitor centre by following Buizerdweg/Knardijk.
