Unique and new
Marker Wadden, part of the Nieuw Land National Park, is a unique project contributing to the restoration of nature in the Markermeer by creating islands of sand, clay and sludge from the bottom of the Markermeer lake. It is the newest part of the Netherlands and a bird paradise.

Ferry
The first Marker Wadden island is open to visitors who can arrive by ferry. In joint cooperation with a number of ferry companies, the organisation has managed to arrange a passenger ferry service on various days to and from the Marker Wadden. The harbour is also open to private boats. Various companies can arrange chartered tours and excursions to Marker Wadden.

Pioneering
On an adventure
It is still very much a pioneering situation on this newest piece of the Netherlands. There are beautiful walks past three new bird lookouts, an impressive watchtower and the harbour beach and North beach. It is still an enormously vast, empty landscape where the nature is still developing and masses of birds are roosting.

Marker Wadden is a paradise for birdwatchers. At Waarneming.nl you can see where and which birds have been spotted in our park. And if you take pictures of them, you can place them on this website. The latest news is that for the first time a kingfisher has been spotted on the island.

Staying the night
Unique island experience
It’s a paradise for nature and for nature lovers. It is possible to spend the night on the Marker Wadden in one of the four energy-neutral island houses. They are far from the daily hectic, in the middle of nature. It’s a vacation you will never forget. And luxurious thanks to the modern fittings. Wander over the beach, dive into the Markermeer and spend the night in an island house.

Development
Natural islands
The current Markermeer currently has few natural banks and shallow areas. This has disrupted the natural balance. Marker Wadden will restore banks and shallows. Nature will be given an enormous stimulus by creating favourable living conditions for water plants, shellfish, birds and fish. There will be islands with natural banks and spawning grounds. This will turn into a robust new nature reserve with clear water in the heart of the Netherlands. A gem providing shelter for migratory birds, fish and other animals.
