The De Krakeend observation point - Oostvaardersplassen

A short path leads through this area, past many water birds and Konik horses. There’s plenty of species of ducks to observe here and in winter you might even catch a glimpse of a northern strike or rough-legged buzzard. A short detour will bring you past the De Poelruiter bird hide.

Route description
By car, follow the A6 motorway between Amsterdam and Emmeloord and take exit 10, direction Lelystad via Larserdreef. Turn left onto the Torenvalkweg and follow this until you reach the Knardijk dyke. Continue straight on, over the cattle grids, on your left you’ll find the area where the De Krakeend bird hide is located. The entrance to this area lies approximately 50 metres further on. You can park your car at the visitor centre or at the Kleine Praambult parking. The visitor centre is not easy to access by public transport, as the nearest bus stop is an hour’s walk away. You can hire a bike in Lelystad; from the train station it takes about half an hour to cycle to the visitor centre by following Buizerdweg/Knardijk.
